“Drei Königinnen, dunkel, unschuldig, klein
einem Schoß entsprungen,
können niemals Freundinnen sein.

Drei dunkle Schwestern, jede so schön,
zwei werden verschlungen,
nur eine gekrönt.”

This is a world divided by blood – red or silver.
The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.

That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.

Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime.

But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart…

Ugh, it’s been a few months since I actually did read this book but better a late review than never a review. The opinions about this book vary so much and often it seems that you either hate or love it. More than once I have read that the book copies others such as The Selection Series by Kiera Cass. Personally I can’t say this since I haven’t read this series but I had some moments when I thought about some other books like Throne of Glass (being the champion), behaving super bitchy and childish at times, having abilities she needs to learn to control (TOG & The Young Elites), being attracted to the prince, etc.

Basically, the book is fulfilling all the Young Adult Fantasy clichées but altogether I rated it with 3,5 Stars. The writing wasn’t bad and I’m curious how the story will continue but to me it doesn’t live up the hype made about it.

These Broken Stars – Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner

I read this book within the Booksplosion February group read-along on goodreads. Discussions on the book can be found here.

Before I start my review, can we talk about how f*cking beautiful this cover is?
It’s so fantastic!

I have to admit that I didn’t really knew a lot about this book itself, except that it was something about space and a spaceship. I didn’t even read the synopsis of it (should I feel ashamed of it). Generally it is said to be like “Titanic in Space”, but I didn’t knew that either until after I finished reading it.

!!!ATTENTION THE REVIEW COULD BE KINDA SPOILERY!!! Continue reading “These Broken Stars – Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner”
